About

Letters Without Borders is a collection of anonymous letters from people around the world to those living through war, occupation, displacement, and humanitarian crises.

Every letter on this site was written by a real person and is delivered at random each time someone visits.

The project was created by a doctor who found it increasingly impossible to separate professional life from the reality of watching human suffering unfold across the world. Like many others, they spent months witnessing the genocide in Gaza while feeling powerless to meaningfully help. This website grew from that frustration and from a simple question “What can ordinary people do when they feel helpless?

Perhaps we cannot stop a war. But we can refuse to become indifferent.

Letters Without Borders is built on the belief that words matter. A letter cannot rebuild a home or end a conflict, but it can remind someone that they matter and that beyond borders, politics, and headlines, there are people who see their humanity.

The project is inspired by Ben West’s Reasons to Stay, whose simple idea showed how anonymous letters can create genuine human connection. It is also inspired by Fatima Bhutto’s Anti-Imperialist Book Club, where many powerful conversations reaffirmed that reading, educating ourselves, preserving stories, and writing are not passive acts -they are a form of resistance against silence and erasure.

Whether you choose to write, read, or simply spend a few moments here, thank you for being part of a community that believes compassion should never stop at a border.
